No Bell Work on Monday or Tuesday, begin your essay.
 
For your Performance Based Assessment, you are to write an essay and give a speech on the prompt given to you on page 108 (or near there, I don't remember). Organize your essay as I have taught you last year:  introduction (includes hook, background info, and the claim), body paragraphs (topic sentence and evidence), followed by the conclusion (restate topic sentences and claim).  
 
Be sure to research your audience choices.  Do not go with what you think is the easiest (High School Graduating Class).  Think about it; what benefit would a group of graduating seniors have in hearing about Beowulf as a hero?  Or Harry Patch?  Or the speak in The Charge of the Light Brigade?  You have an opportunity to pick an audience that matches your thinking and opinions.  Chose the best audience, not what appears to be the easiest.
 
Also, remember that in the writing prompt, you are only given two choices of evidence:  the selections you have read and your own personal experience.  This means NO GOOGLING evidence.  Be careful using personal experience, watching a movie is technically not considered "experience."  Experience is what you have been through personally (either individually, with family, friends, etc.).  
 
If you are struggling and need help, email me at [email protected] or if you have my cell number, text me.  I can probably text you back after 9:00 Monday evening and should be available on Tuesday (I'll be driving back home).  For my students who did not hear the explanations personally on Friday, ask a classmate for help who was here.  If the entire class is struggling, then you know I will help you on Wednesday and consider changing the due date.  If you are just wasting time in class while I'm gone, I'm keeping the due date, Wednesday 10/19, with the speeches for Wednesday as well.  Good luck, and remember, you guys know our classroom procedures better than the sub.  Treat the sub like a guest in our house. Your behavior is a reflection upon you personally and me as well.  See you all Wednesday.
